August 3, 2020 | Officials of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Public School System credited McREL’s research on leadership for helping their first Virtual Leadership Institute succeed, according to an item in the Marianas Variety.
The day-long institute to help school and system leaders prepare for the beginning of the new school year was held remotely to suppress COVID-19 transmission.
During the session, several CNMI leaders delivered sessions on managing change, building purposeful communities of educators, communicating with staff, and displaying flexible leadership during the current situation, which are a few of the learnings from McREL’s Balanced Leadership® program, which the school system has received prior training on.
“This was a . . . historic event for PSS, and it was a success,” Dr. Alfred B. Ada, the district’s commissioner, was quoted as saying. Referring to the pandemic, he added, education leaders “must seize the opportunity to reflect on what has been learned, and what matters most.”
