Goals/Objectives  

In this Institute, district teams will
  • develop and begin to implement a plan for improving mathematics education in their district,

  • learn how to facilitate conversations about critical issues related to mathematics curriculum and instruction, and

  • learn strategies for increasing teachers' abilities to teach in new ways and increasing administrators' understanding of effective mathematics instruction.

Description  Summary:

The Institute is composed of six, two-day sessions that occur over 18–24 months. Each session addresses the three components of the Institute: mathematics content, instruction, and leadership.  

  • Mathematics content: understanding the depth and breadth of knowledge and skills a mathematics curriculum should include

  • Instruction: elements of effective instruction that foster learning for all students

  • Leadership: understanding the change process, strategies for supporting teacher learning, and ways to sustain improvement efforts
