Goals/Objectives  In this workshop, participants will focus on strategies that target

  • The organization of text
  • Vocabulary
  • Accessing and linking prior knowledge to new information
  • Using nonlinguistic representations
  • Summarizing and note taking
Description  This workshop provides ideas and techniques teachers need to help students better comprehend science reading material. Emphasis is placed on a framework that asks students to monitor their own thinking, select appropriate strategies, and apply these strategies to increase their own awareness and understanding. Workshop participants will learn strategies to guide their students as they develop these indispensable skills.
