Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that Works (workshop)

Goals/Objectives

During this workshop, you will
  • learn about nine research-based instructional strategies for enhancing student achievement,
  • discuss ways in which to use technology with these strategies, and
  • begin planning technology-infused lessons or units that use effective instructional practices.
Description  Are you looking for research-based instructional strategies to improve student learning? Would you like to learn how to use technology with these instructional strategies?

This workshop begins with an overview of nine research-based strategies for increasing student achievement. Participants learn to weave these strategies into instruction using their own lesson plans. Participants also take part in guided practice in using five categories of technology with the instructional strategies: word processing, web resources, organizing and brainstorming software, data collection, and multimedia. By the end of the workshop, participants have technology-infused lesson plans ready to use in their classrooms. The information in this workshop is based on Classroom Instruction that Works: Research-based strategies for increasing student achievement (Marzano, R. J., Pickering, D. J., & Pollock, J. E., 2001).  This workshop is appropriate for teachers of all grade levels.

This workshop is based on the material in Using Technology with Classroom Instruction that Works (Pitler, H., Hubbell, E.R., Kuhn, M., & Malenoski, K., 2007). Participants will use that book along with a customized wiki and blog to get real, hands-on experience with technology integration.
