McREL offers two professional development options to assist teachers and leaders in meeting the needs of ELLs. English Language Learner Leadership Introduction This one-day introductory session is designed to build awareness of the research supporting ELL instruction and leadership. Participants will learn how shared leadership, developing a purposeful community, and effectively managing change are critical in supporting mainstream teachers as they become language development teachers.
English Language Learner Leadership Academy This ongoing professional development for school leadership teams increases participants' capacity to assist regular teachers in becoming language development teachers and implementing effectively the research-based strategies in Classroom Instruction that Works with English Language Learners through a shared leadership approach. The Academy can be booked as four, 2-day sessions or as individual sessions over a period of several months. Teams consist of a principal, ELL teacher, content teacher, and may include a literacy coach, staff developer, or other lead teacher.
