The key to effective district leadership is to develop clear, shared goals for using research to improve teaching and learning and to ensure that everyone — from the school board to classroom teachers and parents — works together to meet those goals.

McREL has over 40 years of experience in helping school districts improve student achievement. We offer a wide array of practical, research-based workshops and consulting services that help school districts translate research into real-world guidance that leads to results in their schools and classrooms.

Description  While we can tailor our services to meet any needs, here are some examples of the services we offer:
  • Learning from the Best (1-day session):

    This session describes the findings from McREL's study School District Leadership that Works. This initial professional development session will provide you with an understanding of the research on high-performing districts, and give you the tools you need to sharpen and sustain the "right" focus in your district.

  • Making Connections, Getting Focused (2-day session)

    This session expands on the one-day session, giving participants interactive opportunities to examine the critical connections among school boards, superintendents, and central office staff and how they must all work together to create a high-performing school district. Participants share ideas, brainstorm solutions, and learn specific ways they can support the performance of their district.

  • Intensive Leadership Retreat: Creating a High-Performing District

    This professional learning opportunity for district leadership teams is tailored to your districts challenges and needs. We provide proven, practical guidance on how your school board, superintendent, and district staff can optimize school and student performance.

  • Consulting Services

    We can analyze, provide written reports, and advise districts on the visibility of their strategic improvement plans.
