Balanced Leadership School Level: Developing a Purposeful Community

Goals/Objectives

Research shows that a strong school culture—one that reflects a clear vision for success, expectations for behavior and learning, and a shared belief among teachers that together they can make a difference for students—is an even more powerful predictor of student success than student socioeconomic status. Quite simply, a positive, focused, "purposeful community" can change the odds for student success.

During this session, leaders will learn how to develop a positive culture in their schools, one that reflects the traits of what we call a "purposeful community."
Description  This two-day session is designed to increase participants' knowledge and understanding of
  • The elements of a purposeful community
  • Tools to assess the capacity of a school to become a purposeful community
  • Leadership responsibilities tied to developing positive school cultures
  • Building capacity and using reflective practices
In this highly interactive session, participants engage in a variety of hands-on learning experiences that promote a deep understanding of the importance of creating a purposeful community.

Included materials:
  • Balanced Leadership: Developing a Purposeful Community Participant's Manual
  • The Balanced Leadership Framework: Connecting Vision with Action
