«Go back to the Mathematics Leadership Institute main page»

In session six of the Mathematics Leadership Institute, participants will

  • Learn how to incorporate probability concepts in mathematics problems and why it is important,

  • Learn the characteristics of high-quality mathematics instruction,

  • Learn how principles and agreements contribute to the development and maintenance of purposeful community,

  • Learn how and why to use innovation configurations to track progress toward goals, and

  • Understand the role of celebration in developing collective efficacy and learn ways to celebrate progress toward goals.
Description  Session six looks at the big picture that has emerged while highlighting the probability aspect of the Data Analysis and Probability standard. The instruction strand returns to the theme of high-quality mathematics instruction, bringing together the characteristics of instruction addressed earlier.

The leadership strand continues its focus on supporting teacher learning by emphasizing how to address teachers' differing needs as they implement new practices. It also draws attention to the structures and processes (e.g., celebrating successes) needed to sustain improvement efforts, specifically the role of principals.
