Goals/Objectives

In session four of the Mathematics Leadership Institute, participants will

  • Learn the knowledge and skills that students should learn under the Measurement standard,

  • Learn how to incorporate measurement concepts in mathematics problems,

  • Learn the components of, and strategies for, supporting high-quality mathematical discourse, and

  • Learn how questioning can encourage mathematical discourse and promote development of problem-solving skills.
Description  Session four highlights the Measurement standard. Teams also learn about the components of high-quality mathematical discourse and how questioning supports such discourse.

In addition, the instruction strand emphasizes assessment of mathematics learning, drawing attention to the terms and phrases associated with assessment.

Continuing the focus on managing transitions, this session underscores how peer coaching can support teacher learning and introduces the concept of collective efficacy as one element of a culture that supports change.
