Service Description:
The Balanced Leadership series is based on the largest-ever meta-analysis of research on effective school leaders. The traditional structure of the program is outlined below; however, Balanced Leadership may also be delivered as a summer retreat and as individual workshops.
Key Ideas:
Session 1: An Overview
This session is designed to increase participants' knowledge and understanding of the concepts of principal leadership, shared leadership, and balanced leadership. Prior to this session, participants should read School Leadership that Works: From Research to Results (ASCD, 2005) by Marzano, Waters, & McNulty. (NOTE: The overview session is the only session that may be taken independently of the rest of the Balanced Leadership program.)
You will learn about:
- Leadership responsibilities connected to student achievement
- Improving leadership practices
- Evaluating current school leadership responsibilities
- McREL's framework for Balanced Leadership
- Building capacity and using reflective practices
Session 2: Developing a Purposeful Community
During this session, leaders will learn how to develop a positive culture, or what we call a "purposeful community," in their schools.
Session 3: Managing Change
During this two-day interactive session, participants will learn practical strategies in order to initiate, monitor, and lead change effectively.
Session 4: Choosing the Right Focus
School leaders learn the best leverage points for improving student achievement and how to select improvement initiatives that will result in better student learning and overall school performance.
