Our Work: Curriculum & Instruction

Mathematics

No Child Left Behind and a stronger emphasis on knowledge and skills that students need for the 21st century are changing the education environment. Now, more than ever, teachers and administrators need a clear understanding of mathematics standards and how to make sure students are learning what they need to learn. McREL offers a long-term academy and a standards alignment program that focus on school and district-wide improvements in mathematics instruction and several short-term workshops that target specific changes in the classroom—all designed to improve achievement for every student.

You will receive six, 2-day sessions that address your district needs, such as ensuring your curriculum includes the right knowledge and skills, incorporating elements of effective instruction that foster learning for all students, and understanding and leading change.

Alignment with mathematics
standards
Standards are the beginning and end of success in the mathematics classroom. This professional development model guides participants in a process that creates alignment among pertinent standards, curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Specifically, educators learn how to articulate critical mathematics content for various grade levels, distinguish between district/state standards and NCTM Principles and Standards, and select the best instructional materials and assessment tools.

Workshops
Combine McREL’s one- and two-day workshops to customize professional development that specifically meets your needs. Our mathematics experts will help you choose the most appropriate courses for your school or district.
