Long-time educational leader Jackie Kearns-Barber joins McREL

September 25, 2007

Denver Jackie Kearns-Barber, an educator with more than 30 years experience in administration and leadership, has joined Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning as a principal consultant on the leadership team.

Kearns-Barber's education career has spanned all grade levels and includes service as a teacher, team leader, grant writer, curriculum developer, principal, district-wide coordinator of learning/study skills, and family literacy program director.

In recent years, her leadership work has included coordinating and facilitating a leadership academy for school leaders in 13 districts in Easton, Pennsylvania; coordinating a mentoring program for principals in Jamesburg, New Jersey; and managing a leadership professional development program state-wide in Pennsylvania.

Kearns-Barber, who just finished her doctorate in Education Leadership at Lehigh University, has followed McREL's leadership work for several years and used it in her doctoral research on mentoring new school principals.

"I am looking forward to working as a member of a team that assists schools in improving student learning. With our joined experienced and knowledge, I know our team can facilitate some dynamic professional development for school leaders," she said.

Previously, Kearns-Barber received a C.A.S. in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy from Harvard University, and an M.Ed. in Reading and Language Arts and a B.A. in Elementary Education and Political Science, both from Purdue University.
