Assessment expert JT Lawrence joins McREL's school improvement team

April 20, 2007

Denver Assessment and data expert JT Lawrence has joined McREL as a lead consultant working in school improvement with the Field Services group, specifically with the North Central and Great Lakes West Comprehensive Centers. The federally funded Centers provide school improvement services to several states across the Midwest.

"I was drawn by the opportunity to help improve the quality of education for all students," said Lawrence. "I look forward to building meaningful relationships with our clients and helping them improve student achievement at the highest levels possible."

Lawrence, who holds bachelor's and master's degrees in sociology, comes to McREL from San Diego, Calif., where he most recently served as director of assessment and accountability for the San Diego County Office of Education. In this position, he was responsible for providing direct support to 42 school districts serving half a million students in San Diego County.

Lawrence's other experience includes providing advocacy and policy development to the California Department of Education on issues of assessment and accountability, serving on the San Diego County Superintendents' Achievement Gap Task Force, and serving on District Assistance Intervention Teams, which provided technical support and professional development in the use of student achievement data to inform instruction.
