Former Aspen & Clear Creek County administrator Joanne Ihrig joins McREL

April 20, 2007

Denver Dr. Joanne Ihrig, a former principal, superintendent, and college instructor, has joined Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL) as principal consultant, working primarily with Balanced Leadership. As a member of the leadership team, Ihrig acquires, maintains, and manages a portfolio of consulting, training and technical assistance work.

"Having been in Colorado all of my life as an educator, I have been aware of McREL's impact on education over the years and the outstanding research that has been completed by its research staff," said Ihrig. "I believe that Balanced Leadership promises to provide the best help for leaders in truly raising academic achievement for America's students."

Ihrig's expertise lies in not only school leadership but also curriculum and instruction, accountability, and managing change. Most recently, she served as superintendent of the Clear Creek County School District in Idaho Springs, Colo. and as an assistant superintendent in the Aspen School District, in Aspen, Colo.

Dr. Ihrig was also director of the Educational Leadership and Policy Studies program at the University of Denver's School of Education. In addition, she has served as regional representative for the Colorado Department of Education, consulting with superintendents around the state on the issues of standards, accountability, accreditation, and student assessment.

Ihrig received her doctorate in educational administration from the University of Colorado and her master's in elementary education from the University of Denver.
