Kenneth Anderson, the superintendent of Kearney Public Schools in Kearney, Neb., has joined the Board of Directors of Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL). McREL is a nationally recognized, private, nonprofit organization located in Denver, Colo., which uses high-quality research to help educators improve student learning.
Anderson, who holds a Ph.D. in Administration, Curriculum and Instruction, previously served as superintendent in the Nebraska communities of Hastings, Geneva, and Oxford. In addition, he has worked as a district director of special services and as a school psychologist. He will retire from his position in Kearney later this year and plans to teach at the university level.
"My goal is to help influence the direction of preparation of aspiring leaders, through teaching and through my participation on the Board of Directors at McREL," said Anderson. "As McREL is on the cutting edge of research on what works in leadership, being on the Board is an effective way for me to create the level of influence I'm hoping to achieve."
"Ken Anderson's many years of experience as a superintendent and his enthusiasm for effective school leadership will make him a valuable presence in guiding McREL's work in Nebraska and across the nation," said Tim Waters, McREL's president and CEO.
Other Board members from Nebraska include Philip H. Schoo, superintendent emeritus, Lincoln Public Schools; Polly Feis, deputy commissioner of education, Nebraska Department of Education; and Terry Loschen, owner/manager of Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
