High School Seniors Sought For National Youth Science Camp®
January 10 , 2005
Aurora, Colo. — Gov.
Bill Owens invites Colorado high school seniors with demonstrated
academic achievement in science and potential for thoughtful scientific
leadership to apply for scholarships to the 2005 National Youth Science
Camp®.
Earl Legleiter, a senior science consultant at Mid-continent
Research for Education and Learning (McREL), an education research
organization located in Aurora, Colo., will review the applications
and select the two most qualified students to receive a full scholarship
to attend the four-week camp.
Colorado’s delegates will join other high
school seniors from across the nation this summer in West Virginia,
where they will exchange ideas with scientists and other professionals
from the academic and corporate worlds. The once-in-a-lifetime experience
includes lectures and hands-on research projects presented by scientists
from across the nation; three overnight expeditions into the Monongahela
National Forest; and a visit to Washington, D.C.
The NYSC® experience is offered at no cost to
its participants so that selected delegates may attend regardless
of their financial status. Through contributions from the National
Youth Science Foundation®, delegates receive educational and
recreational programming, as well as meals, lodging, and round-trip
air passage on scheduled airlines all free of charge. More information
about the camp is available online at www.nysc.org.
Delegates will arrive in Charleston, W.V. on Thursday,
June 30, and will depart on Monday, July 25, 2005. The camp is held
at Bartow in the eastern mountains of West Virginia, near the Monongahela
National Forest. To receive an application packet, contact Earl Legleiter
at 303.632.5630 or elegleiter@mcrel.org. Deadline for applications
is February 18, 2005.
