June 20, 2005 Aurora, Colo. Jim Eck, former Assessment Coordinator for the Colorado Department of Education, has announced that he is joining the staff of Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL), an internationally recognized, non-profit education research and development organization located in Aurora, Colo.
Eck will lend his expertise in not only leadership but also assessment and curriculum to his new position as Principal Consultant at McREL. He has over twenty years of education experience, including work as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, director of instructional services, and consultant in assessment and using data.
In his new role, Eck will be working primarily in the areas of leadership and school improvement. "I have been engaged with McREL's work for more than 20 years. I've always been impressed with the translation of research into practice that they provide," Eck said.
According to Brian McNulty, McREL's Vice President of Field Services, Eck's background is a "perfect match" for the organization's current focus on principal leadership and its future focus on superintendent leadership.
In addition, McNulty said, Eck's experience as a trainer gives him an edge in the "practical skill of getting up in front of people."
