Research for Education and Learning (McREL), an Aurora, Colo.-based
nonprofit, nonpartisan education research and development organization,
has won two national awards from the Association of Educational
Publishers (AEP).
•
McREL’s web site (www.mcrel.org) was named “Best Educational
Web ‘Portal’.” •
McREL’s quarterly newsletter, Changing Schools, was named “Best
Newsletter.”
Winners were chosen by a panel of recognized experts
in publishing, who rigorously reviewed materials for educational
interest, competence,
and “that extra spark that says, ‘Yes, this makes
kids ... want to learn,’” noted Charlene Gaynor,
executive director of AEP.
McREL’s Web
site is home to hundreds of
high-quality research reports and briefs, practical guides, policy
briefs, lesson
and
unit plans, and other materials that help educators and policymakers
use education research to improve student performance. In an
average month, 60,000-plus unique visitors access the site and
download more than 15,000 free documents.
Changing Schools, a free
quarterly publication, is funded through
McREL’s regional
educational laboratory contract from
the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education
Sciences. It provides information on current education research
and best
practices and is disseminated to more than 19,000 educators
and policymakers in the seven-state region (Colorado, Kansas,
Missouri,
Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming) that McREL
serves through its regional laboratory contract. To view

“This award acknowledges what McREL’s
clients and constituents already recognize — that our talented,
dedicated staff members create high-quality, relevant, and useful
