As a principal consultant, Monette facilitates and manages training opportunities for improving school achievement, which includes a focus on systemic change, leadership strategies, instructional strategies, and curriculum development. Monette also co-authored Teaching Writing in the Content Areas. Prior to joining McREL, Monette was an assistant professor in the School of Education at the University of Colorado at Boulder, a consultant for the Houghton Mifflin Company, and an elementary school teacher. She has a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia and a master's degree in elementary education and doctorate in curriculum and instruction, both from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
