McREL expands to Australia
Denver —McREL has worked with educators in southeastern Australia on improving school leadership and instruction for many years. Now, it aims to bring its research-based strategies and practices to educators country-wide by opening McREL Australia in Melbourne.
Led by education consultant Ross Dean, formerly of the Victorian Education Leadership Consortium, McREL Australia offers schools and districts (called “networks”) professional development and consulting designed to increase student achievement, including Classroom Instruction That Works®, Power Walkthrough®, and Balanced Leadership®.
“Australia is looking to better prepare their students for success in a globalized knowledge economy and understands that high-quality teachers and leaders are at the heart of achieving competitive advantage,” said Bryan Goodwin, McREL’s chief operating officer.
McREL, which works with educators across the United States and in several countries worldwide, has for 47 years created products and services that translate research into practical applications. As Australia looks to improve its international ranking as well as overall teacher quality, McREL aims to fulfill these needs for educators in all contexts and for all student populations.
“With (Australia's) National Plan for School Improvement directed towards making every school in Australia a great school, McREL’s research on effective teaching and leading will help educators here reach their goals, just as it has for other schools McREL has partnered with in the U.S. and around the world,” said Dean. McREL’s products and services, he added, align with three critical components of the National Plan for School Improvement: placing the best teachers and principals in every school; giving more support to students who need it most; and improving school results.
