NCCC co-hosts School Improvement Grant (SIG) conference in Denver
Denver—The North Central Comprehensive Center (NCCC), along with six other Comprehensive Centers from the Central Region, the Midwest Equity Assistance Center, and the Mountain Plains Regional Resource Center, will co-host the School Improvement Grant (SIG) Regional Conference in Denver, Colorado, on May 24–25.
The conference is expected to draw more than 200 state, district, and school leaders implementing School Improvement Grants in 14 Central Region states and for the Bureau of Indian Education. It is the last of four regional, capacity-building conferences designed by the United States Department of Education to support states and schools in turning around persistently low-performing schools. The Denver conference focuses specifically on rural and Indian American student populations.
The theme for the first day of the conference is optimizing SIG implementation with a focus on research and application on topics such as implementation research, effective teachers and leaders, and providing flexibility and operational support to sustain change. The second day focuses on optimizing teaching and learning, including an examination of current research and best practices as well as examples of what is working in states, districts, and schools.
