TRICA helps teachers "redefine their role"
Middle Ground
In a review of the third edition of Teaching Reading in the Content Areas (Urquhart & Frazee, 2012) that appears in the February issue of Middle Ground, Professor Ginni Fair of Eastern Kentucky University says the book shows how changes in education, such as new technologies, diverse learners, and the Common Core, requires a change in focus from content area reading to content area literacy. With detailed descriptions of effective instructional strategies and checklists, Fair writes, the book's authors combine theory and practice in a way that helps teachers redefine their role from reading teachers to literacy advocates.
