Denver Dr. Jean Williams, former Director of the Center for Research in Education for RTI International in Research Triangle Park, N.C., has been appointed as the new Vice President of Research and Evaluation at Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning (McREL), a non-profit education research and development organization based in Denver, Colo.

Dr. Williams brings over 30 years of experience in teaching, research, and management to McREL's research and evaluation programs. These duties will include overseeing several research projects conducted by the Central Region Education Laboratory at McREL.

"It's a privilege to join McREL's distinguished team of educational researchers, who are dedicated to raising student achievement," said Williams. "I look forward to the opportunity to conduct rigorous and useful research that improves our nation's schools."

"We are pleased and honored that Dr. Williams will be joining McREL's management team," said Dr. Tim Waters, McREL's President and CEO. "She brings us both a wealth of experience in conducting scientifically based research and a dedication to the educators and children whom we serve."

McREL, which is funded through a combination of competitive federal grants, local and state contracts, and product sales, maintains an office of 100 employees in Denver and had revenues in excess of $13.5 million in 2005.
