Race to the Top
Race to the Top applicants are required to submit a timeline and process for adopting, implementing, and aligning assessments with Common Core language arts and mathematics standards.

This goal calls upon education systems to adopt college- and career-ready standards, rich and engaging curricula based on the standards, and high-quality, aligned assessments to measure student learning.

With 15-plus years of experience developing, analyzing and implementing standards, McREL has the insight and expertise needed to help states and districts

  • Develop a strategy and timelines for transitioning to the Common Core and aligning assessment systems

  • Compare current state standards to the Common Core, documenting differences in student expectations

  • Develop criteria to identify which standards might comprise the 15 percent of standards permitted to supplement the Common Core

  • Assist curriculum developers as they transition to the Common Core and help them identify new instructional materials

  • Create performance rubrics and sample assessments for grade-level standards and benchmarks aligned to the Common Core

  • Develop and deliver professional development to help teachers implement curricular frameworks aligned with the Common Core

  • Develop and implement formative assessments aligned with the Common Core

  • Align high school exit criteria and college entrance requirements to the Common Core

  • Revise K–12 standards in other subject areas to be consistent with Common Core language arts and mathematics standards
