Giving students the right start is crucial to their later academic success. McREL Principal Researcher Elena Bodrova, co-developer of the Tools of the Mind program featured in the new book Nurture Shock, designed our Scaffolding Early Learning (SEL) program. SEL focuses on the literacy prerequisites of oral language, phonemic awareness, and self-regulation, which research suggests have the greatest impact on developing students’ reading and writing skills.
McREL offers both professional development and on-site technical assistance aimed at enhancing teachers’ skills and knowledge about the needs of early learners, putting them on the road to future academic success.
